I've found that in the Mother 1/EB Zero universe, there's two types of fans: those who refer to the lead character as "Ninten", and those who call him "Ken" (after Saori Kumi's Mother novel). I'm of the former crowd, but in *this* particular instance I decided to go with "Ken", since it would be just plain weird for a bunch of kids who don't understand the game to be reading about someone whose name is strikingly close to "Nintendo". All the same, it was awfully weird for ME to write the story, since Ken is just a shortened version of my OWN name (Kenneth), which I generally don't like to be called.
But anyway, check out Page 2. Since the Paradise Line only has about what, six or seven destinations TOTAL, that's gotta be one tiny catalogue. Either that or they dedicated a whole page to each individual town.

I love putting little nuances and inside jokes into my art. Here, on page 3, the bench the two boys are sitting on has an advertisement for Mach Pizza ("We deliver, and that's all!"). Of course, if you want to nitpick, that's a reference to Mother 2, but... hey, Mother is Mother.
Also, notice how quick Ke- err, Ninten is to agree to go to Snowman. I bet he's a good little boy who helps old ladies like her across the street. He's really got that "stand-up leadership" thing going for him.

I remember I did NOT feel like drawing a big crowd scene for Page 5, so the population dwindled down to about four or five extras. This train station is not used much. Apparently everyone prefers to walk their way to work, and risk getting attacked by crazed hippies and the like :)
Also, I love it how the conductor is directing the crowd through a closed gate :)

For Page 7, I knew I wanted Ninten in that awesome running pose, but after I inked him in, I remembered that he was supposed to be carrying Anna's hat. So I put the hat off to the side in mid-air, like he dropped it in his rush to get to Snowman. The untold story here is that Lloyd picked the hat up after him and followed. Um, yeah.
I know Page 8 is a LITTLE over-the-top ("okay, so suddenly, out of nowhere, for no apparent reason, they run into Bigfoot"), but there had to be SOME amusement in this book :)

Okay, so Page 8 was nothing compared to Page 9. It IS a little disturbing to see a couple of little kids chased down by a bunch of savage carnivores, but then again, in the Bible, Elijah (or Elisha... one o' thems) turned 42 she-bears on a group of kids because they called him Baldy.
As for Page 10, I tried to recreate the landscape directly from the game as you enter Snowman, right down to the position of the NPCs. However, I added a snowman (because... well, if the place is called Snowman, you need a snowman!!). Those structures in the near distance that look like cake or gingerbread... those are the low-hanging cliffs that overlook the town.
