Ever since I finished EB Zero back in 2000, whenever I imagined George poring over his notes, I pictured him sitting at a scanty table in a dark, dank basement scene. It feels soooo nice to be able to put these long-time mental images on paper. Also, I was originally going to color the mayor's over-vest red, but then when I looked at the next-to-last panel (where he's silencing Suzannah), I realized that I made him look awfully Russian, so instead, I colored his vest blue. And speaking of Suzannah, I think I may have made yet another historical oopsie here: back in those days, women had very few privileges, so what are several women doing at a TOWN COUNCIL MEETING? Of course, from the very beginning, I knew I wanted the characters to have some sort of audience with the mayor to discuss the situation with George, but originally it was supposed to be a small enclosed meeting with her, James, a FEW involved townsfolk, and the mayor; but eventually it evolved into a full-out town council meeting. At any rate, I needed Suzannah present to be able to move the story forward. So I fudged a little. |

The reason why Suzannah didn't vote is because women weren't allowed to vote back then. Of course, like I said before, women at a town council meeting in 1908 is kinda dicey, but I tells the story my way. |

I like the unintended effect I created in the background of the "Bad Enough Dude" panel. Ninten gloats, but very visibly behind him, the black cloud out the window has not yet departed. I didn't even catch the irony until I finished the panel. Also, I was playing around with the idea of Ninten saying "Shoot... and I thought 'The Brave Little Toaster' was farfetched!" when looking at the destroyed lamp in disgust, but I already wanted the "Bad Enough Dude" line, and I figured working in two whole retro culture references one after the other would just be in bad taste, especially considering that I've already gone over the top with those culture references! There's a couple more I want to throw in before the end of the chapter though, so just... humor me. And on a much relieved note, this is the last page to feature Ninten's room for a long time! All I can say is... THANK GOODNESS! I was getting so freaking sick of that stupid Garfield poster, and I'm sure everyone else was too. |

I PROMISE the battle FINALLY begins on the next page. As for the title, inspiration came from the Calvin and Hobbes collection "Scientific Progress Goes BOINK!" I had another title I wanted to use, but decided against it. What was the other title, you ask? "Feed the Childrens." Na na, na na na, hey hey, doot doot doot! |
